Day 35: ? Bilboa to Santander, goodbye to the guys

It’s another travel day! Luis and Sebastian are headed to Paris and I’m off to Santander for a few days.

We did some laundry this morning and a short trip to the Guggenheim.

Then it is farewell for now!

Day 34: beach day in San Sebastian

Fantastic beach, lovely water and great views.

Final full day with the boys! ?
My sand castle
Cava, smashing
Panorama!

Day 33: beach day in Neguri, Bilboa

They’re still pretty hot on covid masks on public transport in Italy and Spain ?! Getting trams, trains and buses around the place in different countries has been quite fun.

Nothing too exciting today after a lot of heavy nights. Metro down to the beach, then some nice Mexican food and a few drinks before an early night.

Day 32: ✈️ Flying to Bilboa, Spain

I’ve been travelling for a whole month now!

It feels like I’ve been away forever, still loving it.

We decided to come here on a whim yesterday! After getting back in from Positano at 03:30 we were up and out to get the bus to Naples… Sheeesh!

A short-ish flight to Bilboa in Spain 😀

The guys took me to a Colombian restaurant here for Empenadas and my very first Bandeja paisa–a huge plate of really nice food, and some Colombian beers. Tried Cola Pola too and definitely want some more.

Booked a last minute Airbnb in what looks like old town, awesome band outside in the streets playing some sweet local tunes.

Tonight should be pretty chill, walking around town and probably another beach day tomorrow.

The Guggenheim Museum is here so we most certainly will check that out before we leave.

Day 31: boat trip Bois in Amalfi

So we came down to Amalfi early for our planned trip out all day on a boat around the coast. It was pissing down and stormy so we couldn’t go out at 09:00 as planned, boooooo!

After some breakfast Luis, Sebastian and I got the all clear to take the fine ship Gessica out at 11:00–stocked up on beers, and away we go ?️

The water was mega choppy for the Mediterranean, and we had a blast cruising around to Positano 🙂 mooring was a tricky affair but we managed eventually.

We bobbed around for ages waiting to dock and poor Sebastian was a bit seasick after that so he went to chill in the shade, Luis and myself went for a swim n chill on the beach. The waves were great fun!

We had a bit of food in Positano then cruised back to Amalfi, all in all a pretty sweet little adventure out on the sea.

Many beers and Amalfi Spritzes (limoncello + prosecco) plus some beach chill time followed. We got changed and grabbed a bus back to Positano hah!

I brought the wrong gear for clubbing, thinking there weren’t any here really. We had some beach beverages and the lads have gone to the club for an hour or so whilst I do my own thing around the beach–before our pricey taxi back to San Lazzaro.

Looong, awesome day out ?

Moon beams!

Tomorrow: Spain!

Day 30: beach day in Amalfi

Day 29: getting lost in the Amalfi coast

Luis, Sebastian and I grabbed an early train from Rome to Naples to head down to our Airbnb in San Lazzaro near Amalfi… After a super fast train we switched to a replacement bus, then more buses and we quickly ended up on quite a different journey than planned.

What a trip! Croquettes in Santallamere waiting for the next bus, here it all gets funky.

About 30 minutes in, the second bus we got headed in a totally unexpected direction than Google told us, then we got off in the middle of nowhere to get the bus back to Gragnole(?) waiting for quote some time.

Don’t trust map apps outside of major metro areas is the lesson here, ask locals! Always check with the bus driver where they are going ?

After spending an hour or so asking for advice and trying to find a taxi cab, we decided to walk to a taxi place uphill (very up hill, zone 2 cardio definitely in for the day!) about half an hour away.

We get there and the taxi place doesn’t exist anymore, being now a rough looking council estate just like where I grew up–stray dogs and all.

A local butcher managed to communicate to us that the next bus was hours away, and our best bet was to hitch-hike (Luis & Sebastian’native Spanish helped a lot with the Italian-only natives ?)

The sun starts to set and we’re lost, sweaty and stranded! Not too mention our phones are running low

Hitchhiking attempt

Eventually our lovely Airbnb host sent her friend to come pick us up! We were fully prepared to either sleep in the streets or walk 2 hours to San Lazzaro, but we really appreciated the ride and the guy showed us the places to go nearby.

We all dropped our bags off at the gorgeous apartment (pics incoming) and went for pizza forno Al legna at a lovely place in the town.

Then, a very early night wooooooo!

I really did want to get lost at least once on this trip, and this was fun with the guys; it would’ve been much more daunting alone though I am sure.

Day 28: Scorching day in Rome

Clement from the Genoa hostel and Nazim from Florence joined us here for the day!

Very late night as usual, I hired a Lime bike to get back from Shari-Vari club… Not the best idea when drunk!

Luis, Sebastian & I are headed to Amalfi coast tomorrow, party on. ?

Day 27: ? Florence to Rome, sights and dancing

Morning train to Rome with Poppy!

Poppy and I checked out and caught the fast train to Rome to meet up with the boys!

We got some food, I had a nice carbonara even though the poor waiter forgot our order so it took ages ?. Alex from the Florence hostel also happened to be here so he joined us for day

We then hit up some of the sights and met up with Luis and Sebastian in Vatican City.

Then up to a park with some beers, chilling on the grass and watching the sun set over Rome… So beautiful, I’m really loving the sunset vibes in these different places. It’s really good to be with these guys again.

It was Alex’s last night so we hit the town, as usual ? great times.

Day 26: Michelangelo’s David in Florence

On the first Sunday of the month all of the public museums in Florence are free, so the boys and I went down to the Accademia Gallery. A lot of Jesus paintings here, and my man David!

This guy is so impressive in person, it’s hard to describe.

Nazim dipped back to the hostel, Clement and I carried on to the Pallazo Vecchio: huuuge murals.

Dodgy panorama photo attempt

Back to the hostel for some light day drinks, and Mauro cooked us all some proper Italian food ? we hit up the park at night for a few drinks, then our for cocktails and pizza and a quiet-ish night.

Poppy has convinced me to leave a day early, so we can go meet up with Luis & Sebastian in Rome tomorrow haha. Works out well because Nazim wants to stay a day extra, Ostello Bello are so cool and just swapped the reservation over with no fuss.
