Day 70: amphibious bus in Göteborg

A bit of a sore head this morning! It’s been a while since I’ve drank that much beer, best to switch back to my dear friend G&T.

Ocean bus

I saw a poster for something called The Ocean Bus, an amphibious tour and couldn’t resist! A fun hour around the city and into the sea on a converted Volvo bus with a fantastic live tour guide.

Glen the bus!
Poseidon
Shrimp Sandwich, a local specialty and very tasty for those of us into seafood

In the evening merry back up with Geri, Melissa and Balint. We played some cards games and drank beers in the hostel, with some nice American lasses joining in.

You can’t buy alcohol from shops after 15:00 or at weekends here ?

After that we went out to the bars for a few more, merry a cool Swedish guy called Henrik but we were home much earlier this time around.

Day 69: ? Stockholm to Gothenburg, drinks!

Farewell to Linus, we’ll likely be getting together with the rest of the amigos early next year.

Here we go again! Another high-speed train journey through the countryside, to Gothenburg in the west of Sweden for a few days. This train was filled with chattering, loud young girls in some kind of school trip? Not a bad journey though, headphones in.

Checked into the hostel after a short tram ride (another travel app argh) and went for a proper shave at HolyRock barber shop. I’m pretty sure I’ve never had a barber shave before, it was really good! So smooth 🙂

The hostel put on a little bar hop event so a few of us went out and had lots of beers around the city. Fun little group, from Norway, Hungary, Germany and Australia.

Day 68: Linus in Stockholm part 2

Another gorgeous day in Sweden! Had a chill one for the most part, some coffee here, lunch at Max burger (much nicer than McDonald’s) and then a nice canal cruise just before the sun goes down.

Linus has to work this evening, so it’s solo coffee and night time trip around town for me.

Day 67: Linus in Stockholm part 1

No rain today! Linus got here this morning and we went for a great breakfast at Gast Café; any breakfast with good scrambled eggs in it is great for my purposes.

Lush, not a damn pastry in sight

We spent the day seeing some sights. First a ferry over to the ABBA museum, which my mum could easily have spent a whole day in, was way better than I expected. Fun exhibits with loads of interactive things to do, including karaoke and dancing with ABBA holograms ?.

? My my, At Waterloo Napoleon did surrender, Oh yeah! ?

Then we checked out the Vasa shipwreck, and the wrecks museum–both really cool, especially if you’re into naval history.

Vasa, about 400 years old, sank 1.5km out of the harbour because it was too heavy, oops

Bruno (who we met in Germany) recommended Meatballs for the People as a good dinner spot so we went there this evening, really good food and lots of unusual meat options. Including boar, reindeer and bear ?

After that, a few nightcaps at the Ice Bar near the train station. -7°C!

Ideal temperature for me, poncho & gloves mandatory though

Day 66: ? Malmö to Stockholm

Another nice, long train ride for 4.5 hours. Really comfy train, tighter wobbly turns than I’m used to back in the UK though!

Meeting up with Linus while I’m here, hopefully he’ll know all the good places to go.

Checked into my cool hostel, which is partly a boat on the water and on a little island in the bay. After that just wandering around in the rain and a few drinks here and there.

Day 65: a day in Malmo

A short train ride across the water to Malmö for the day, before long train trip to Stockholm.

A nighttime walk down to the sea, and to check out the twisty tower in Västra hamnen.

After that Jess FD met me for dinner at the hotel, plus I got to meet her lovely new fella Rick! It was so nice to catch up after, I think, 5 years maybe since we last saw each other?

Day 64: last day in Copenhagen

For my last day I wandered around, seeing more of the city and took some random metro rides here and there.

Took a look at Rosenborg Castle, spent a few hours in the National Museum (pretty big!) and had a traditional Danish lunch of Smørrebrød–extremely yummy.

For the evening, more exploring in the cold winter air with a few more gløggs along the way.I’ve

Copenhagen is gorgeous, I really want to come here in the summer some time.

Booked a day in Malmo tomorrow, and dinner with Jess F-D from G-town, who I haven’t seen for years ?

Day 63: little mermaid & Tivoli in Copenhagen

The folks here really never cross the road until they get the green signal, even if there’s zero traffic at all!

Mum wanted me to check out the mermaid statue, so I did.

Very cute indeed

A whole lot more walking around the city, this time with the sun shining and I took the second party of the tour by the guys from the other day.

I followed that up with a walk around Tivoli–a very cool pleasure park just outside the train station, last couple of days it’s open until they switch over to a Christmas theme.

Max and I went back to the park for a roller-coaster ride and some gløgg, then out for drinks with some fun locals in the meatpacking district.

Day 62: touring around Copenhagen

I love it when the hostel has a gym, so rare! The TrainAway app is pretty good for finding nearby places, but it’s much better when there’s one built in.

Very strange after three months on the Euro or Pound, switching over to the Danish Krone.

Walking tour around the city

A great tour by Roger from Politically Incorrect Tours ?. Gonna check out the Hidden Tour from the same team tomorrow afternoon.

It was raining, fun tour! And I had a ristet hotdog afterwards, yummy.

J-Day Denmark 2022

It’s the official start of winter here tonight and a really fun city-wide party. Launch of the winter beer by Carlsberg, they came around giving free beers away all over.

Met up with Max from the dorm and a couple of local lads for drinks and beer pong ?

Day 61: ? Hamburg to Denmark

About 09:00 got a train in Hamburg, 4 hours later more-or-less and I’m in beautiful Copenhagen! The air is a bit colder and super fresh 😀

I’m staying at Next House Copenhagen hostel and it’s probably the biggest & fanciest one yet, full gym and football pitch in the basement for starters, very handy.

Very cool hostel!

Had some drinks in the bar then an early night, long journeys always make me sleepy.
